BMW X Range & Winter Driving Guide
Date posted: 5 October 2020
The nights might now be longer, but that doesn’t have to mean an end to adventures on the road. In this guide, we’d like to introduce you to the family of BMW X models, from the versatile BMW X1 to the impressive X6 and showcase the intelligent all-wheel-drive BMW system, xDrive – which is no longer just restricted to SAV.
What’s more, the BMW range, including the BMW X models, is currently available at Lloyd BMW with a low-rate 2.9% APR Representative*.
We'd also like to share with you our winter driving tips and winter accessories - meaning that with Lloyd BMW and this guide, you will be at home in any environment this season.
4WD, all-wheel drive and 4x4 are all terms that are used interchangeably, but all equate to the same thing. BMW xDrive is powered by an extra layer of intelligence, making it one of the most technically advanced all-wheel drive systems in the segment.
What is BMW xDrive?
Reacting in the blink of an eye to changing driving conditions, BMW xDrive balances power between all the wheels to deliver the performance you'd expect from the ultimate driving machine without compromising efficiency. By permanently monitoring which tyres have the most traction and reacting in milliseconds to any loss of grip, the xDrive system subtly shifts the car's power to the appropriate axle for maximum road-holding, whatever the driving conditions.
Moreover, unlike many all-wheel-drive systems, xDrive is fully variable so it eliminates virtually all understeer as the front wheels only receive power when required. To experience perfect driving in imperfect driving conditions this autumn and winter, please call us or drop into your local Lloyd BMW dealership and speak to one of the Sales team who would be happy to arrange a test drive^ for you in one of our xDrive models.
In addition to BMW xDrive, there is also BMW M xDrive. This has been specifically engineered with the ambition of enhancing the driving experience, as expected of all BMW M products. Thanks to the central driving dynamics management system, which ensures that all of the data from the various driver systems are controlled through one centralised hub, M xDrive has the power to adjust the vehicle driving dynamics and settings to match the conditions.

1. Make sure that the boot is stocked with winter safety essentials – an ice scraper, a first-aid kit, and the usual blanket/hat/gloves/torch/emergency food pack.
2. Have the battery tested and replace it if there is even a hint of doubt as to its condition – the cold will exacerbate any existing issues, plus the added drain of the heater, fans and lights will place extra strain on the alternator.
3. Replace windscreen wipes – if there’s been heavy rain then your wiper blades might need to be replaced
4. Check your windscreen washer fluid – as it gets wetter, the water thrown up from the ground gets dirtier and causes build-up on the windscreen
5. Check your antifreeze – ensure the fluid levels are adequate to prevent freezing
6. Check your oil monthly
7. Inspect your brakes – brakes which are not in tip-top condition can cause accidents in winter driving conditions
8. Tyre checks – check the tyre tread and pressure of your tyres
9. Have winter tyres installed – winter tyres are great for winter driving and can help with traction in snow and ice
10. On convertibles and BMWs with frameless door windows, apply Vaseline to the seals where the door glass meets the roof – this will help to repel water and will keep the seals supple in the cold.
