Special Features

ConnectedDrive

Standard across all new Z4 models, BMW ConnectedDrive Services intelligently connects vehicles, driver and outside world, providing information and entertainment in a variety of effortless ways. The BMW Apps Interface allows the use of supported BMW and third party apps from a compatible device.

BMW Online connects you to current, location-based information such as weather and news, as well as travel and hotel guides for wherever you may be heading. Send-to-car functionality sends destinations found on the ConnectedDrive portal directly to the navigation system. A three year subscription to BMW Online is included with all new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer models.

BMW Emergency Call

Available as standard on all BMW Z4 models, permits fast, targeted assistance in emergency situations round-the-clock as well as support by trained staff – in the driver's native language, even when abroad. If a serious accident takes place involving activation of an air bag or the seat belt tensioners, an intelligent emergency call is automatically issued. Relevant details for rescue such as the exact position of the car, the severity of the accident and the possible risk of injury to occupants are transmitted to the BMW Call Centre via the car’s built-in SIM card, independently of a private mobile phone. The BMW Call Centre informs the nearest rescue coordination centre and provides assistance over the phone until the rescue services arrive. The emergency call can also be triggered manually in case others on the road require help, for example.

BMW Teleservices

BMW TeleServices intelligently networks the driver, vehicle and BMW. It independently relays information about the vehicle to BMW as required and gets in touch when it is is due for a service. Your preferred BMW Service Centre can access the data in order to schedule – and prepare for – your next service appointment. For example, they can order any necessary replacement parts well in advance. A BMW Service Centre will contact the owner when the car is due for a service. Thanks to BMW TeleServices, some malfunctions can even be resolved remotely without having to take the car in for repair.

Traffic Jam Assist

Traffic Jam Assist takes the burden off the driver on motorways and in other monotonous traffic situations. At speeds of up to 60 km/h, the system lets the car simply "glide along" with the other cars in dense traffic situations, making traffic jams less stressful. It automatically maintains the desired distance from the vehicle ahead and regulates the car's speed down to standstill – as well as providing active steering support. The vehicle is able to help the driver stay in the correct lane.

Traffic Jam Assist is included in the optional Driving Assistant Plus.

Head-up Display

The full-colour BMW Head-up Display projects all relevant driving information into the driver's field of vision, so they can remain focused on the road. Current speed, directions from the navigation system, speed limit Information including no-overtaking indicator and telephone and entertainment lists are displayed, along with warnings from the driver assistance systems.

The symbols, which are projected onto a retractable panel above the instrument cluster, are depicted in full colour so that the traffic signs look realistic. The panel's slightly tinted colour increases the contrast.

The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to outside light conditions, and can also be manually set to reflect individual preferences. The day and night displays also feature different designs. The driver can select which information to display in addition to current speed and the warnings from the driver assistance systems. Visibility of the display is limited when wearing polarised sunglasses.

Park Assist

The Park Assist package combines Park Assist and Park Distance Control (PDC) in the front and rear. Together, the two systems ensure easy parking with increased safety at all times.

The Park Assistant makes parallel parking easier. When the system is activated, it will measure any parking gaps while the driver passes by slowly (under 21 mph). When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Park Assistant takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also shows supplementary instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals.
Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear makes parking in and pulling out of tight spaces much easier. An acoustic signal warns about potential obstacles, reducing the danger of damage while manoeuvring. Ultrasound sensors at the vehicle's front and rear determine the position of potential obstacles.

Reverse Camera

The Reversing Assist camera allows the driver to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. It also allows for a better view when reversing at speeds below 9 mph, for example when parking.

The track lines and coloured obstacle markings that appear in the Control Display show the driver if a parking spot is suitable − and assist the driver if this is the case. When the steering wheel is at full lock, red turning circle lines appear, as well as green driving track lines, which adapt to every movement of the steering wheel.

The reversing assistant camera is automatically deactivated after ten metres or when the vehicle travels faster than 9mph. In conjunction with the tow bar, the Reversing Assist camera makes hooking up a trailer easier with a practical zoom function.

Navigation System

The Navigation System Plus including BMW Head-up Display brings together several useful components: a navigation system with built-in 8.8 inch LCD colour display, radio, MP3 player, RDS double tuner and an instrument cluster with high-resolution 5.7 inch TFT display. Route guidance is provided via an arrow or map display, along with spoken instructions. The navigation system is operated intuitively via the iDrive Touch Controller with direct menu control buttons and eight functional bookmarks or – depending on the vehicle's features – by voice control.

Navigation System Plus shows drivers the quick and direct route through numerous European countries and in some cases even further afield. TMC technology is used for the early detection of traffic obstructions and alternative routes are calculated at rapid speed, for a safe arrival at the driver's destination.
