What a stunning thing to drive super-accurate, remarkable composure under pressure. It makes mincemeat of difficult roads, and although the limits are ridiculously high, the precision of the controls, steering and chassis means it s fun at any speed. The rear end is as accurate and placeable as the front. There seems as direct a link between right foot and rear axle as between hands and front axle. Engine response and torque is sensational. The wheel is thick-rimmed, but the driving position is spot on, and the controls all operate exactly as you want. The complication comes with the modes and instrument cluster. The exception being the gearchange ferocity and exhaust noise. There s more grip than you d expect from a 503bhp rear-wheel-drive. For the arrival of xDrive in the M3, BMW has revised the front suspension setup and steering, as well as fitting a clutch to distribute power between the front and rear axles with uniquely tuned software! The BMW M3 Competition utilises a 2993cc closed-deck straight-six engine with two mono-scroll turbochargers. The M3's twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine packs a big punch 503bhp to be exact. That's enough for a sub-4sec 0-62mph time!
