About the Motability Scheme
The Motability Scheme enables you to lease a brand new vehicle by exchanging your qualifying mobility allowance. With everything included except fuel – from insurance and servicing to breakdown cover and adaptations – it's worry-free motoring designed around your needs. How it worksAm I Eligible for the Motability Scheme?
You could be eligible to join the Motability Scheme if:
✓ You receive one of the following mobility allowances and have at least 12 months' award length remaining.
✓ You have a child aged three or over, you can also make a Motability application on their behalf if they are entitled to the Higher Mobility Component of DLA or Child Disability Payment.

What is Motability?
The Motability Scheme is a government-backed program that helps disabled people lease a brand-new car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), scooter or powered wheelchair using their mobility allowance. Motability Operations Ltd manages the scheme, enabling eligible individuals to exchange their Higher Rate Mobility Component, Enhanced Rate PIP, War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement or Armed Forces Independence Payment for hassle-free vehicle access with insurance, maintenance and breakdown cover all included.
What is included in the Motability Scheme?
Your Motability lease includes everything except fuel:
- Comprehensive insurance with up to two named drivers
- Full breakdown cover and recovery
- Servicing, maintenance and repairs
- Annual vehicle tax (VED)
- Tyre and windscreen replacement
- Adaptation installation (if required)
How much does Motability cost?
Many vehicles are available within your weekly mobility allowance at no extra cost. If you choose a car that costs more than your allowance covers, you'll need to make a one-off Advance Payment. Visit our showroom or use the Motability price list to see which vehicles are available within your budget.
Can I get a Motability car if I'm over 65?
Yes, there's no upper age limit for the Motability Scheme. If you receive a qualifying mobility allowance with at least 12 months remaining on your award, you can join the scheme regardless of your age. This applies to Higher Rate Mobility Component DLA, Enhanced Rate PIP, War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement and Armed Forces Independence Payment.
Can I get adaptations on my Motability car?
Yes, adaptations are available at no extra cost if they're essential for you to drive or travel in the vehicle. Available adaptations include:
- Hand controls and left-foot accelerators
- Wheelchair and scooter hoists
- Swivel seats and transfer boards
- Steering aids and pedal modifications
- Parking sensors and reversing cameras

What happens if my car breaks down?
Your Motability lease includes RAC breakdown cover 24/7, 365 days a year. If your car can't be fixed at the roadside, you'll receive recovery to your destination and a courtesy car if needed. Simply call the Motability breakdown number provided with your vehicle.
Can I get a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) on Motability?
Yes, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles are available through the Motability Scheme. WAVs come with adaptations such as lowered floors, ramps or lifts, and can accommodate wheelchair users as either drivers or passengers. Lloyd Motor Group can help you find the right WAV for your needs.
