Lloyd Volvo Carlisle's Jim Blake Takes Part in Dave Day 2026

Company News

The team at Lloyd Volvo Carlisle is proud to celebrate the achievement of Technician, Jim Blake, who recently took part in Dave Day 2026 – a remarkable motorcycle ride held in memory of the late Dave Myers of the Hairy Bikers.

What began as a conversation at Dave Myers' funeral has grown into one of the UK's most inspiring motorcycle events, bringing together thousands of riders in tribute to a much-loved television personality and passionate motorcyclist.

A Ride Like No Other

Reflecting on the event, Jim explained:

"Dave Day was an idea that was talked about at Dave Myers' funeral. Could we get a few bikers together as a tribute to Dave? Woody, one of the main organisers, said we'd give it a go. The ride runs from Ace Cafe London to Barrow, with various joining points along the route. In the first year, 63,000 bikes arrived in Barrow, with thousands of people lining the roads and motorway bridges to show their support."

This year's ride saw Jim travel an impressive distance, covering 284 miles from Ace Cafe London to Barrow. Including his journey from home in Silloth to London, the total distance travelled exceeded 600 miles.

Riding in Tribute

For the event, Jim rode his new Kawasaki Versys, joining fellow motorcyclists from across the country in a powerful display of camaraderie and remembrance.

When asked about the highlight of the experience, Jim spoke about the unique sense of community shared by riders:

"Motorcycle people are like a band of brothers and sisters. We all look out for each other. The biggest thing is the ride itself – seeing people cheering, clapping and waving from roadsides, bridges and even roundabouts. The support is incredible."

A Personal Journey

For Jim, Dave Day holds particular significance.

"My late wife Brenda and I spent many evenings watching the Hairy Bikers. As bikers ourselves, it felt like a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to Dave. Last year, I completed the ride solo just a few weeks after losing Brenda following her brave fight with illness. I joined the ride at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham and rode back home to Cumbria."

Jim's participation is not only a tribute to Dave Myers, but also a heartfelt reflection of cherished memories shared with Brenda and the enduring spirit of the motorcycling community.

Supporting Worthwhile Causes

The event raises funds for charities close to Dave Myers' heart, including Childline and Cancer Research UK.

Jim has personally funded the entire trip, including fuel and accommodation costs, while also making a generous donation to support the fundraising effort.

"I'm covering all of the costs myself and will still be making a donation. The charities supported are causes the Hairy Bikers cared deeply about, and it's a privilege to contribute."

On behalf of everyone at Lloyd Volvo Carlisle, we would like to congratulate Jim on completing this incredible journey. His dedication, generosity and passion embody the values of community, resilience and support that make events like Dave Day so special.
