Meet Dan Harrison, General Manager

Meet Dan Harrison, General Manager

Tell us about your journey at Lloyd Motor Group so far, and how you became General Manager at Lloyd Carlisle Škoda?
  

"I started with Lloyd Motor Group in the early 2000’s as a Sales Executive and I was selling MG/Rovers at Rosehill, I have since represented a few different brands that we have had over the years like Saab, BMW, Fiat/Alpha Romeo, Land Rover & Jaguar.  I have worked as a Sales Exec, Assistant Manager, Business Manager, Brand Manager, Group Buyer and Group Sales Manager before taking this position as General Manager when we bought this site just over a month ago and I feel enormously proud that I have been given this opportunity."

What advice would you offer to someone just starting their career in the automotive industry?  

"The advice I would give to anyone starting out in the motor trade is to work hard and keep things simple and don’t try to over complicate things. It’s a great business to be in and for me the best company to work for."

How do you ensure the team stay motivated and focused on providing the best possible customer experience every day? 
 

"We have a very motivated team in place here at Lloyd Škoda Carlisle. Every day, there is a hunger there to improve and get better, from our youngest sales exec, Alex, through to our more experienced execs. Customers are the forefront of our business, so providing them with the best experience we can is so important. Knowledge of the brand is key to this. And this is something that is growing every day! There are no secrets on our site and from this we can all pull in the same direction towards the same goal!"
 

What are you most excited for over the next 12 months at Lloyd Carlisle Škoda?  

"The future really excites me as this is my first management role within Lloyd Motor Group. The next 12 months is so important and exciting for not only my own development, but also to be part of the growth of Lloyd Škoda."

Meet David Johnson, Senior Sales Executive

How did you get started in the motor trade? 

"I got into the motor trade after working in retail for 10 years and wanted something that was going to challenge me more. I had a couple of knock backs but persevered and managed to get a trainee sales exec job at the Renault dealership, I wasn't allowed to sell cars for the first 3 months due to some intensive training. I worked there for 2.5 years and then moved to Vauxhall where I was for 10 years and then to Škoda where I have been for just under 10 years."

Electric cars are on the rise, what excites you most about Škoda’s EV range? 

"I love the instant power of electric cars, no lag just instant power, great handling and all the tech they have on, so much cheaper to run than an ICE car and the charging times keep getting better and better. I can't wait for the new products like the Epiq and SpaceBEV to come."

"At Lloyd Carlisle Škoda, the aftersales experience stands out because of our reliable, straightforward approach and experienced team. Customers deal with familiar faces who know their vehicle history and take the time to explain things clearly. We focus on keeping things simple, honest, and efficient—so whether it’s routine servicing or unexpected repairs, customers know they’re in good hands and can trust us to get the job done right."
 

If you could take any Škoda for a weekend road trip, which one would you choose and where would you go? 

"It’s got to be the Škoda Octavia vRS. It’s quick, sharp to drive, and still practical enough to throw your bags in the back. I’d head to North Wales—great roads, proper scenery, and plenty of chances to enjoy what the vRS is built for. It’s the kind of car that makes the drive just as good as the destination."

What’s been your standout moment since joining the Lloyd Carlisle Škoda?
 

"As someone who was already part of the team, my standout moment since becoming part of Lloyd Carlisle Škoda has been how welcoming and supportive the environment has been—for both customers and colleagues. It’s been great to see the team come together, continuing to offer the same friendly, familiar service while also supporting each other through the changes. There’s a real team spirit, and we’re all focused on making sure every customer feels valued and looked after."

What do you think is the most important quality for success as a Service Advisor?
 

"As a Service Advisor, I believe the most important quality is clear, honest communication—delivered with a friendly face. Customers want to feel welcome, listened to, and confident that their vehicle is being looked after. Being approachable, keeping them informed, and making sure they feel comfortable every step of the way is what truly makes the difference."

What do you enjoy most about working in automotive sales?
 

"I enjoy meeting a wide range of people and helping them find the car that truly fits their needs and lifestyle. It’s rewarding to guide someone through such an important purchase and see how excited they are when they drive away in the right vehicle."

What was your first car and what do you drive now?

"I used to drive a 3-door Ford Fiesta 1.0L (850cc). It had some go-faster stripes and a bit of DIY ventilation in the passenger footwell under the carpet. No power steering, no A/C, no CD player, and the headlights were about as bright as two candles. It always smelled like engine oil. Now I’ve got a Škoda Enyaq, and honestly, the difference is unbelievable."

What does a typical day in your role look like?
 

"I greet all customers as they arrive at the showroom with a warm friendly welcoming smile and offer them refreshments. Once refreshments have been given, I inform the person/department that they have arrived or I will find someone who will assist. I keep the customers up to date as to what is happening during their stay. I answer all in-coming calls and direct to the relevant person/department or pass on a message."
 

What has been your favourite moment so far at Lloyd Škoda?

"I have quite a lot of favourite moments so far. What I most enjoy is watching the delight on customers' faces when they experience the level of care and attention we provide while they're in our showroom. It's incredibly rewarding to see how much they appreciate being genuinely looked after. This is a great place to work - the staff are all pulling together and working as a fantastic team, which makes all the difference in creating those positive experiences for our customers."

Meet Alex De Freitas, Apprentice Sales Executive

What does your day to day look like a Sales Executive?

"My mornings start with a team meeting to review stock updates and set priorities. I then follow up on overnight leads and emails before dedicating time to self-development whether it's improving product knowledge or refining my sales approach. I also plan the rest of my day to stay on top of appointments. Afternoons are the busiest: test drives, walk-ins, working on deals, and following up with recent customers. It’s all about maximizing interactions and maintaining strong communication. Late afternoon into the early evening is mostly all about prospecting for me: reaching out to new potential buyers, chasing leads, and tying up anything that's there or thereabouts that I hadn't managed to get to earlier in the day. All before prepping for the next day!"
 

Which Škoda model do you personally like the most, and why?

"My favourite model/car would have to be either the Fabia Rally2 or to own perhaps an Octavia vRS Estate - Must be in Hyper Green! I quite like to bright and out there look, and the performance aspect of it is quite nice as well!"
