This week at Lloyd Bodyshop Carlisle, we are proud to celebrate a major milestone for one of our talented technicians. Andrew has successfully achieved the Jaguar Land Rover Aluminium Structural Repairer qualification—a prestigious certification that places him among a select group of highly skilled technicians in the region.
This advanced qualification significantly strengthens the technical expertise and capabilities of Lloyd Bodyshop Carlisle, enabling us to offer an even higher standard of specialist repair services to our local customers.
Achieving the Aluminium Structural Repairer qualification is no small feat. It requires dedication, technical excellence, and a passion for continuous learning. We caught up with Andrew to find out more.....
What does achieving the Aluminium Structural Repairer qualification involve, and why is it considered such a specialist skill in the industry?
"Achieving the aluminium welding qualification involves being enthusiastic about your work and wanting to strive to learn more, it is considered a specialised skill as panel beating itself is becoming a dying trade, with not many people able to teach aluminium structural repairs. As modern vehicle construction increasingly relies on lightweight aluminium structures—particularly within Jaguar Land Rover models—this expertise is becoming ever more valuable”
Talk us through the training and assessments to become an accredited aluminium repair specialist?
"The training involved online and in-person theory which included structural and cosmetic repairs on Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. In addition to the theory, there were also practical assessments to test our knowledge.”
How does having a qualified Aluminium Structural Repairer on the Lloyd Bodyshop team enhance the services we offer customers?
“It enhances the services we can provide customers by being able to offer a unique skill that not many bodyshops can currently deliver. This means reduced repair times, manufacturer-approved workmanship, and peace of mind for customers with aluminium-bodied vehicles."
What motivated you to pursue this qualification?
"Becoming aluminium qualified at my age was a very proud moment for me, it has motivated me to continue to further expand my skills and knowledge as my career progresses.”
What did you find most challenging—and most rewarding—during the training process?
“I found the aluminium welding the most challenging part, as it wasn’t something I had experienced in my prior training. However, it was also the most rewarding, as I felt a great sense of achievement after learning the fundamentals.”
