Hello Richard, can you tell us about your career journey with us, from where you started to how you got to where you are today?

"I joined Lloyd Volvo Carlisle in April 2000. After 15 years in red star hotels and being a keen amateur mechanic, I thought becoming a Service Advisor was an attractive job. After a few years, I moved to a Senior Service Advisor role and then moved into Warranty Administration / Parts seven years ago."

What do you enjoy most about working at Lloyd Volvo Carlisle?

"During my time on the front service desk, two things stand out as very proud moments. Firstly, we won Dealer of the Year and had a great trip to the top of Scotland with all kinds of activities. The other proudest moment was winning UK Service Advisor of the year in Volvos VISTA international bi- annual competition (I wouldn’t do it that again though as it was really really nerve wracking!) but did get a weeks trip to Sweden with Volvo and saw the factory, testing grounds and got to drive cars, trucks, even a bus! It was an amazing trip."

What has been your standout career highlight from the past 25 years?

"The reason I have loved working here at Lloyd Volvo Carlisle, and still do, is the whole atmosphere of support, improvement, kindness, guidance and great friendship with all colleagues, created by and nurtured by Gary Horn, our Head of Business, and used by all the management I have worked with over the 25 years here. It is absolutely true, ask anyone here at Lloyd Volvo Carlisle!"

"Over the years I have also been lucky enough to buy some lovely bargain trade in cars, the latest being big enough for my wife to use to transport all her wedding and celebrations cakes around the county - I've got to plug her facebook page  Cakes by Debra Warburton."

Can you talk us through a typical day in your role as Warranty Administrator?

"My day starts early helping the Parts guys unpack, sort, invoice and get parts ready for the vans and workshop preplans. Then, I'll begin processing and interpreting technicians technical write ups and preparing/claiming job cards for work done, liasing with VCUK warranty dept and carrying out recall campaigns etc, which I gather from other franchises in the group are, as always, ever more demanding and strictly monitored by the manufacturers. It's challenging but very interesting work and I learn a lot every day about the rapidly changing car technology and repair methods that have developed and more recently the totally new world of electric cars."

What is one piece of advice would you give someone looking to start their career in the motor trade?

"Following from that, the piece of advice to someone wanting to join Lloyd Motor Group would be “every day is a school day” so embrace this and never be afraid to ask and learn."

What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?

"When I escape to relax, fishing is my thing… When the wife hasn’t got a list for me to do!"

On behalf of the Lloyd Motor Group team, we would like to congratulate Richard on this incredible milestone and thank him for his continued commitment and passion to his trade.
