Scott takes a trip down memory lane

Company News

Recently, Scott, our Vehicle Progressor and Digital Merchandiser at Lloyd Volvo Carlisle, celebrated his 60th birthday. We caught up with Scott and took a trip down memory lane!

Happy Birthday, Scott! Now, tell us a bit about your background over the years…

So, I started in the Motor Trade in 1980, trained as a mechanic but left in 1989 to work in the music industry. After re-training to be a Sound Engineer, I found myself recording live concerts and unplugged sessions for Commercial Radio with bands such as Verve, Radiohead and others! I subsequently found myself working for one of the radio stations as the Outside Broadcast Manager but after a couple of years I decided I didn’t like it and switched careers… going into motorcycle road racing… as you do! (not as a rider but importer and distributor as well as a race organiser).

That lasted until the 2008 crash when things started to deteriorate. In 2011, I moved to Hong Kong to work as a Digital Merchandiser, among other roles such as Project Management and Commercial Drone Pilot for a large online Remote Control (model planes, etc) distributor and moved back because I missed family….(very) long story short, I then started with Lloyd Motor Group 2 years ago as a Vehicle Progressor and Digital Merchandiser!

What does your typical day look like as a vehicle progressor / digital merchandiser at Lloyd Volvo Carlisle?

My daily role is to check incoming stock and liase with all departments to prepare the vehicle for retail, I then photograph the vehicle and write the webcopy as well as uploading the vehicle for sale on Volvo Selekt and Autotrader.

North by Northwest

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I ride motorcycles and I play bass in a local band called ‘North by Northwest’ which is relatively new and plays “Americana” of various sorts.

Tell us something about yourself that most people won’t know..

I once had lunch with Prince Phillip many years ago and I used to work closely with Craig Cash from The Royale Family!

Tell us 2 truths and a lie about yourself?*

I was born and raised in Manchester.
I have three grown kids and seven grandkids.
I was a champion swimmer at school.

*The lie is that I was a champion swimmer at school - I actually can't swim!
