Meet Jason McAleese, our new JLR Local Business Development Manager

Meet Jason McAleese, our new Local Business Development Manager and the only Business & Fleet Jaguar Land Rover advisor in Cumbria and South-West Scotland. From taxation implications to the cost of ownership calculations, Jason is here to help you identify the right car and finance solution for you and your business.
 
Based at our Carlisle Jaguar Land Rover retailer, we caught up with Jason to find out more about him, and what drew him to join us here at Lloyd Motor Group.

What did you do before joining us?

Prior to joining Lloyd Jaguar Land Rover in Carlisle, I worked at Riverside Recruitment, this is where I began my working career when I was 18 years old, first appointed as an Apprentice, and was soon promoted to my most recent position of Recruitment Consultant.

What made you join Lloyd Motor Group?

In my previous role, Lloyd Motor Group was one of my clients. I have always been very impressed with the company and it has always stood out to me as a great place to work. I was particularly drawn to Jaguar and Land Rover brands because of their prestigiousness and the fact they are always evolving to meet customers’ expectations, in terms of modern technology. Whilst speaking with Lloyd Motor Group, I was made aware of the Business Development Manager position coming up, I asked a few more questions about the role and I knew I had to apply for it, even though I have never worked in the automotive industry before.  

What made you this interested in the Business Development Manager role?

I felt as though the role would be a great step for me in terms of my career progression. Whilst I have a lot to learn, there are many skills that I can transfer from my previous role to this one. I love getting out and about, meeting new people and being of service to them, as well as being able to offer solutions to any issues they might have. 

Plus, the brands themselves make me very excited. When I introduce myself by saying that I work for Lloyd Jaguar Land Rover, I feel that I get instant respect from the listener – the strength of the Lloyd name combined with world-renowned and multi-award-winning Jaguar and Land Rover is a powerful tool. I can definitely say that I am proud to be a part of the team here at Lloyd Jaguar Land Rover Carlisle.

You mentioned transferable skills from your previous work experience, what would these be and how will you utilise them in your current role?

In my previous role, the key to success was to be super organised and manage my diary well. Combine this with good people skills, confidence in going out to find prospective clients, along with the ability to explain the most complex ‘things’ in a simple manner, these are just some of the transferrable skills which I will bring to my current role.  I know that I can manage this well and I can deal with high-pressure situations, especially when dealing with volume accounts. Add this to my newly acquired knowledge of Jaguar and Land Rover offerings created for businesses, I am confident that I can evolve in this role and be successful at what I do.

After all, not many businesses and company car drivers realise how affordable the Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles are now, due to the introduction of Plug-In Hybrids and All-Electric Jaguar I-PACE. I can't wait to communicate the available incentives to customers.

So you’ve been with us for a few weeks now, what are your impressions so far?

It has been a great experience so far. The team here at Lloyd Jaguar Land Rover branch are super helpful and friendly, they make me feel welcome and I already feel like a well-established member of the team. So far, my days have been filled with training sessions which have been key for me to gain a good understanding of the business, compliance and product offering. I am very enthusiastic and eager to start networking and I feel ready to share my knowledge with potential clients.

I'd also like to mention how surprised I was by my car tax since I joined Lloyd Motor Group. As a company car driver, I was given a high spec Jaguar E-PACE and I anticipated that my car tax will be really high, but due to it being a Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) it barely costs me anything! I save so much money now that I jumped to the Jaguar brand, plus I am super impressed by the advanced technology the car offers, not to mention the feeling I get when I drive this highly prestigious car – this is priceless!

Lastly, what are your plans for developing this role?

My aim is to make people aware of the business benefits that the new Jaguar and Land Rover can bring, and how affordable they are. Secondly, as Jaguar and Land Rover have just recently introduced cars that have such a competitive business car offering, I really want to get our name out there in the business world. I don’t think many businesses would consider Jaguar or Land Rover at the moment due to the assumption that they are very expensive. I want to change that mindset. Focussing on small local businesses first, I will then hopefully have the chance to expand our services to bigger corporate clients.
