One of the most pressing issues we face today as a society is that of global warming. In response to this, many motor manufacturers have been in fierce pursuit of being kinder to our environment; in this pursuit, AdBlue has been their answer. AdBlue reduces the impact diesel engines have on the atmosphere.
A diesel car with AdBlue reduces the harmful toxins it produces by up to 90% using an additive called DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) or AdBlue, which is essential to keep you on the move.
What is AdBlue and how does it work?
It’s a colourless, non-toxic, non-flammable and biodegradable urea solution. Your car’s Selective Catalytic Reduction System uses it to convert nitrogen oxides (NOx) into nitrogen, water and tiny amounts of carbon dioxide: all-natural ingredients of the air we breathe.
How often do I refill with AdBlue?
In normal driving conditions, one refill should be enough between services. However, mid-service top-ups may be required; different driving styles and journey types will have an impact on how much AdBlue is used. Only very small amounts of AdBlue are used at a time so you won’t need to top up like you do with fuel, but it’s important that you don’t let supplies run out. When you are low - a warning light will appear on your dashboard.
How do I know my car needs a refill?
A message will appear in your driver display approximately 1,500 miles before the AdBlue tank is empty. Further messages will appear when the level becomes critically low.
What if I forget to top up the AdBlue tank?
The car needs a minimum of 3 litres and up to a maximum of 16 litres, depending on the model. Keep this in mind, as if you do run out then your vehicle won’t be able to start.
How many litres does my car need?
Because your engine needs AdBlue to run, our workshops can top up your AdBlue tank at every service. You can refill AdBlue yourself by referring to your handbook. However, please be aware that the liquid can stain clothing and may need special equipment to do so. All our retailers will be happy to refill for you.
