Gary is one of the first BMW HVE Technicians in the country.
Our resident Master Technician Gary Dickson was recently chosen to be one of the first 5 Retailer Technicians in the UK to take part in the BMW Group High Voltage Expert training (HVE).
The intense 5-week training program, held at the BMW Group Academy UK in Reading, dips into engineering level electrical theory and practical training including important topics such as Rules and Responsibilities, Health and Safety and concludes with a total of 8 exams.
We caught up with him to find out more about this exciting opportunity…
Congratulations on your achievement Gary, can you explain the significance of a BMW HVE qualification and how it benefits a workshop?
“A BMW Group High Voltage Expert (HVE) is allowed, on his/her own authority, to carry out work on live and not intrinsically safe high-voltage systems and battery units. Qualification as a BMW Group High Voltage Expert (HVE) is accordingly complex and detailed, and places high demands on the attendees.
This now gives us the skills and qualifications to future proof our workshop in the ever-increasing complexity and growing numbers of Hybrid and Electric vehicles.”
What first attracted you to the training?
“The training and qualification were something that was very exciting to me as a BMW Master Technician and I am delighted to have attended and qualified as a High Voltage Expert. I am looking forward to new and innovative future electric vehicles from the BMW Group.”
How did you find the experience?
“With 5 weeks away from home and family, this was something quite unusual compared to the regular Technical Training that we are used to attending. Luckily, I had the full support from my incredible wife and 11-year-old daughter.”
What is your favourite thing about working for the BMW brand?
“The best thing about working for the BMW brand is the technologies and the premium quality. Everything is well-engineered, and the technology is constantly being improved with each model.”
Everyone at Lloyd BMW Carlisle is delighted for Gary on this fantastic achievement and the all-electric potential it can bring to our workshop.
