A half-century of dedication, growth, and motoring excellence was celebrated this week as Lloyd Cockermouth marked an extraordinary 50-year partnership with BMW Group UK.

The recognition carries a profound significance for the company. In 1976, Lloyd Motor Group was founded with the opening of a single BMW retailer right here in Cockermouth. From those humble beginnings, the family-owned business has grown into one of the UK’s leading independent automotive groups, employing over 1,500 people across more than thirty locations throughout the North of England and South Scotland.

Throughout five decades of rapid expansion, the partnership between Cockermouth and BMW has remained the of the group’s identity.
In his letter to Chris, David George highlighted this remarkable joint legacy:
"On behalf of BMW Group UK, congratulations for 50 years of partnership with us at Lloyd Cockermouth. This is a fantastic milestone for your centre and our joint collaboration. As a thank you and celebration of your long-standing representation of BMW in your area, we have produced this plaque for display in your showroom. Thank you once again, we wish you continued success for the remainder of 2026 and the years to follow."

The new commemorative plinth will take pride of place in the Cockermouth showroom, serving as a symbol of five decades of shared passion, heritage, and the drive forward into the next half-century.
