The New Era Continues: All-Electric BMW i3 Announced for Neue Klasse Launch

BMW has officially unveiled the first-ever all-electric 3 Series, the BMW i3, marking a "technological quantum leap" as part of the brand’s visionary Neue Klasse line-up.

Combining hallmark BMW sportiness with next-generation efficiency, the new i3 saloon is set to redefine the electric driving experience when production begins in Munich in August 2026.

Performance Meets Precision.

The BMW i3 50 xDrive features an electric motor on both axles, delivering a combined output of 345 kW (469 hp) and 645 Nm of torque. At its heart lies the ‘Heart of Joy’ - a high-performance super-brain recently introduced in the new BMW iX3 that processes driving dynamics ten times faster than previous systems, ensuring the precise, effortless handling expected of a 3 Series.

Next-Gen Charging and Range

Equipped with sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology and an 800-volt system, the i3 is built for the long haul:
  • Range: Up to 900 km (approx. 560 miles) on a single charge.
  • Ultra-Fast Charging: DC capacities of up to 400 kW allow drivers to add 400 km of range in just 10 minutes.
  • Smart Tech: Supports bidirectional charging (Vehicle-to-Home and Vehicle-to-Grid) for ultimate energy flexibility.

A Bold New Design Language

The hallmark BMW sporty silhouette proportions are reflected in the new 2.5-box design,  featuring a long wheelbase and short overhangs. The iconic kidney grille and headlights merge into a single innovative light signature, while the interior debuts the BMW Panoramic iDrive in the saloon class, offering a driver-centric, spacious cabin designed specifically for the electric era.
Production and Availability

The new BMW i3 will be manufactured at thehistoric Munich plant, which is currently undergoing a total transformation to produce exclusively fully electric Neue Klasse vehicles.
Production is scheduled to start in August 2026, with the first UK deliveries expected from autumn 2026.

All data is currently provisional.
