Can you tell us a little about your career journey and what led you to your current role?

"My career journey actually began in the creative arts. I studied Photography at both college and university, earning my degree in Fashion Editorial Photography. While you might not immediately link this style of photography with the automotive industry, my studies taught me how to look at things from unique perspectives and appreciate the design, craftsmanship and stories behind subjects. After graduating, I wanted to apply that professional eye, attention to detail and love of storytelling through a lens into a fast-paced, dynamic environment, which naturally led me to Lloyd Motor Group."

Was there a particular moment or person that inspired you to work in the automotive industry?

"For me, the inspiration came from the unique art of car design. Beyond the technical side, I was drawn to the vibrant, fast-paced nature of the automotive world. I love the energy of the dealership — it's an ever-changing environment where no two days are the same."

How did you get into working in sales in the automotive industry?

"I'm 2nd generation motor trade! The industry took my family and me all around the world. Growing up in car and motorbike dealerships planted the seed early on. I've always wanted a job that feels fulfilling and fun, with a people focus. I've always believed cars are more than a method of transport; I have customers collecting their first car to pass their test, an upgrade to bring their newborn home, a dream car purchase they've saved up towards for years, the list goes on. Being involved in that journey for each customer is a great privilege."

What skills do you think are essential for women excelling in sales roles?

"I think resilience is vital for any sales role. The motor trade is still male dominated, so finding your personal style and weaving it into the sales process, as well as being able to hold your own in any space, is imperative. I think it is equally important to be able to get stuck in with everyone else. The job isn't always glamorous and banter is inevitable! I think female representation in sales is vital, particularly for female customers. There is an underlying trust and comfort that builds quicker girl to girl. A car is the second largest purchase you'll make in your life and being able to connect with the person on the other side of the desk is so important."

How do you feel women are shaping the future of this industry?

"I'm approaching 15 years in the industry now and I have seen phenomenal changes in my time in the trade, I'm proud to be part of it. As we see more women enter senior management and beyond, I think there is a unique empathy and collaborative attitude that comes with this. Balance is key, and I believe we are in a special time throughout the industry. I'm so proud to be an ambassador for an industry that has truly come on leaps and bounds. The motor trade has never been more welcoming, and the development both personal and professional that is attainable is unmatched. That is only exemplified by Lloyd Motor Group who have been the most impressive employer I've had; I feel entirely equipped and empowered to take my career to any height within the group"

What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of?

"My overall career at Lloyd Motor Group has been an extremely rewarding experience. I started my apprenticeship with no automotive experience and have been given the opportunity to progress to my current position today as Assistant Service Manager. I feel extremely proud of the team I get to work with every day, who always go above and beyond to help both customers and colleagues on a daily basis. Over the last few years, I have been able to witness and assist the team to grow both personally and professionally, with many individuals completing high level qualifications for the brand and dealer network, which I have enjoyed celebrating — their successes both individually and as part of the team."

What advice would you give to women aspiring to leadership roles in automotive?

"If I could give any advice to women aspiring to leadership roles in automotive, it would be to give it your all and take every opportunity that you are given. From starting as an apprentice, I have been grateful for every opportunity and experience I have been given, as this has ultimately helped me achieve within the business. Be enthusiastic, turn up with a positive, hard-working attitude and there is no doubt that you will be successful."

What inspired you to start an apprenticeship in the automotive industry?

"I have a true passion for cars and growing up I was fascinated by the way things worked. Although I was also inspired by the fact the automotive industry is quite male dominated, so as a young women just starting out, I see it as motivation rather than a barrier to prove to myself and other women it is a place we belong too."

What has been your biggest learning experience so far?

"Building my confidence and understanding it’s okay not to get everything right and as an apprentice you must learn first and make mistakes to allow you to grow. Skill comes with practice and determination and by doing that things I prove to myself each day of the progress I’m making."

Ellis Conder - Service Advisor

Lloyd Leyburn, Authorised repair centre

What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of?

"The accomplishment I am most proud of is being recognised as one of the Top 6 JLR Service Advisors in the UK for 2024. To be selected as a national finalist from such a massive network was a huge milestone for me, but what made it truly special was how I got there.

It was the unwavering support of my clients in Leyburn that put me on that stage. Every review they filled out, mentioning how well they were looked after, reminded me why I love this job. I'm also incredibly proud of the journey we've taken our small branch on. We've worked hard as a team to prove that a smaller site can deliver the same Modern Luxury experience as the biggest city showrooms. Being in that Top 6 wasn't just a personal win; it was a testament to the high standards we've built together in Leyburn."

How do you feel women are shaping the future of this industry?

"I believe women are shaping the future of this industry by shifting the focus from the machine to the human. At JLR, as we move into a future of modern luxury and electrification, women are bringing the empathy, collaborative leadership, and fresh design perspectives needed to turn a vehicle into a seamless part of a sustainable lifestyle. We aren't just part of the change; we are the ones ensuring the change is meaningful for our customers."

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

"I'd tell my younger self to hold onto every moment with family and never stop doing what makes you happy. Life has a way of turning out remarkably well when you prioritise the people and passions that matter most."

Kayleigh Hebblethwaite - Client Care Manager

What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of?

"I'm incredibly proud of every step of my journey with Lloyd JLR. I've been so fortunate to be recognised for my hard work, first being promoted to Senior Service Advisor, then winning an award as one of the Top Retailer Colleagues of the Year, and more recently stepping into my role as Client Care Manager. It genuinely means so much to work for a company that takes the time to recognise potential, invest in its people, and encourage progression. I've always felt supported to grow, challenge myself, and keep improving both personally and professionally."

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in automotive?

"I would absolutely encourage anyone, especially women, not to feel put off by a career in the motor trade. It's a fast-paced, high-energy environment where no two days are ever the same, and if you enjoy hard work and variety, it's incredibly rewarding. The knowledge and confidence I've built over the years, thanks to the support of my peers and leaders, has made such a difference, particularly when it comes to working closely with and supporting our clients.

For me, it's been an exciting, fulfilling journey, and I'm genuinely proud to be part of it."

Bethany McIntyre - Service Front Of House Manager

What does a typical day in your role look like as a Service Advisor?

"At Lloyd Land Rover York, I work as a Front of House Manager and, honestly, no two days are ever the same. It's a fast-paced, people-focused role. I make sure every customer gets a warm welcome and a smooth experience from the moment they walk in. I coordinate client distribution for the service advisors, organise drivers, manage bookings and the workshop diary, and keep communication flowing between the workshop and management. I also handle customer enquiries, support the aftersales team, and resolve any issues quickly and professionally. My main focus is always delivering high customer service standards while keeping everything running efficiently."

Have you faced any unique challenges in aftersales as a woman, and how did you overcome them?

"Working in what's traditionally been a male-dominated industry has definitely had its challenges. There was a time when you rarely saw women in car garages, especially in aftersales. But now, we're not just part of it — we're helping lead it and succeeding. I'm really fortunate to have a fantastic support team that shows me constant respect and encouragement, even in a high-demand role. I'm proud to work alongside talented female managers, sales executives, service advisors, and workshop controllers. Seeing more women thrive and lead in this environment is genuinely inspiring. Aftersales can be busy and demanding, but with confidence, strong communication, and teamwork, and the right support around you, it makes all the difference."
