Going the Distance: Marketeer Chloe Triumphs at 2025 Copenhagen Marathon

Company News

We are delighted to announce, our fantastic Lloyd Motor Group Marketing Assistant, Chloe Gemmell recently crossed the finish line of the 2025 Copenhagen Marathon!

On the 11th May, surrounded by cheering crowds and powered by encouragement from friends back home, Chloe conquered the intense course through Denmark's beautiful capital in spectacular time.

We caught up with her as she reflected on the big day…

Hi Chloe, what inspired you to sign up for the Copenhagen Marathon?

“I love running and have completed races in the past, such as the Carlisle Half Marathon and Great Cumbrian Run. I wanted to challenge myself with a full marathon and have something to work towards. Copenhagen is one of my favourite cities to visit, and I saw there were spaces left, so I thought, why not!”

How did you prepare for the big day?

“I followed a 16-week training plan from Runna. I would choose to do my shorter runs on weeknights after work and my long runs on Sundays. Sticking to this structure really helped me build a routine that was realistic for me.”

Can you describe the atmosphere in Copenhagen on race day?

“The atmosphere was incredible. Nike, BMW and Joe and the Juice were the main sponsors, and the branding across the city made it feel so exciting. The spectators were so encouraging the whole way around, too. My best friends were tracking my progress the whole time on the Marathon app back at home. They were sending me texts and voice notes throughout the race, and honestly, that kept me going. I thought hitting the wall would be the hardest part, but only 3km from the finish, I started to feel faint and had to walk for a few minutes (which was frustrating!). A runner came up to me, telling me I got this and said we’d finish together. That kind of kindness really stuck with me. It was honestly one of my favourite days.”

How did it feel crossing the finish line?

“Such a relief! I injured my leg on my last long run, and I couldn’t finish my final two weeks of training, which made race day even more daunting. Finishing the race felt like I’d really achieved something, especially after all the uncertainty leading up to it. I’m so glad I did it!”

What song was on your marathon playlist that really powered you through?

“I usually listen to Boiler Room sets, especially when I’m running longer distances. My go-to choices are Fred Again, Sammy Virgi and Overmono.”

How did you celebrate?

“After collecting my medal in the runner’s area, I lay down on the grass for a good 20 minutes and then had a lovely beer from the beer tent. My mum flew out with me to support me, so we enjoyed the sunshine and had some food to celebrate.”

Any advice you’d give to someone considering running their first marathon?

“When I started training for the Marathon, I expected it to be mostly a physical challenge, but it turned out to be even more mentally tough. It can be quite easy to compare yourself to others and to doubt your ability, especially after doing a training run that didn’t go as expected. If I could give one piece of advice to anyone, it would be to back yourself, trust in your training and to just enjoy race day. Take it all in because it goes so quickly on the day.”

Would you do another Marathon in the future?

“About 30km into the race, I did tell myself, ‘I am never ever doing this again,' which isn’t the most motivating mindset to have at the time. But now that I've had some time to recover, I’d definitely like to do another one!”

On behalf of Lloyd Motor Group, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Chloe on this superb achievement and wish her the best of luck for future races. The team could not be prouder!
