Meet Martin Pearse, MINI Brand Manager at Lloyd Cockermouth

Company News

Over the past few months at Lloyd Motor Group, we have seen a number of our team members being promoted! We recognise that our people truly are our greatest asset, and we strive to support them throughout their careers and help them to grow and advance within the company.

Someone who has been recently promoted is Martin Pearse, who moved from his Retail Sales Manager role at Lloyd BMW Cockermouth to MINI Brand Manager at Lloyd MINI Cockermouth.

To find out more about Martin, we asked him a few questions, both about himself and his career journey!

Can you tell us a bit about your background?

"I’ve been in the motor industry for 17 years! I started working for BMW in 2007 in the South West as a Trainee Sales Executive. From there, I worked my way through the ranks as a Used Car Manager, then the New Car manager, until I took over New and Used BMW for the branch.

"After selling BMWs for 5 years and helping some trainees progress to become sales executives, I got a buzz out of helping people realise their potential. I knew being in a senior position or a management role would allow me to explore this further, so I stepped up into a sales controller role. From there I took on the Used car manager role and after that, I looked after New Cars too. I got to work with some amazing and very successful people along the way".

Tell us a bit about your career here at Lloyd Motor Group.

"My career at Lloyd Motor Group started at Lloyd BMW Cockermouth in February 2020, 5 weeks before the first lockdown, as a Retail Sales Manager. In this role, I mainly looked after New Car sales and Finance. When this opportunity came along to take on a bigger challenge in the MINI side, I jumped at it - The best thing about working at Lloyd Motor Group is definitely the culture around moving the business and people forward".

Why did you want to work for Lloyd Motor Group?

"My wife was moving to Cumbria for her new career in the nuclear industry. I spoke to a few people that I knew in BMW UK about who would be the best group to work for. Lloyd Motor Group came highly recommended by everyone I spoke to".

What is your favourite thing about your current role as MINI Brand Manager?

"My favourite thing is having the freedom to change things that I feel could be better, and breathing some new energy into the team who are all very established".

Talk us through a typical day in your role

"Myself and the team start each day with a meeting to discuss the plans for the day. After that, it’s general prep for the day’s appointments and handovers, catching up on various emails and seeing the Vehicle Progressors about New and Used car stock and chasing vehicle preparation, while helpfully stacking deals for the sales team and selling some cars!"

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

"The harder you work, the luckier you’ll get".

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

"I spend as much time I can with my young daughter, Murphy. Apart from that I love cooking and may be slightly obsessed with the gym!"

Tell us 2 truths and a lie about yourself!*

  1. "I’m an identical twin"
  2. "I can backflip"
  3. "I have great fashion sense"

If you could invite 5 people to a dinner party, dead or alive, who would it be?
