Ben is running the London Marathon

Company News

On 21st April, Colne BMW's Ben O'Hara will be running the London Marathon in aid of Mencap.

The London Marathon has earned an impressive reputation over the past 40 years, often testing its contestants to their physical limits during the 26.2 miles. Out of the 578,374 hopefuls who entered the ballot, Ben secured his place and will run the iconic route through the London Mall on 21st April.

His chosen charity Mencap, are passionate around creating positive change for those with learning disabilities. They continually campaign for equality and sole vision is to ensure the UK is best place for those with a disability to live a happy and healthy life.

We caught up with Ben to discuss the exciting challenge...

Tell us about yourself?

"Hi my name is Ben and I've been part of the Lloyd Colne BMW Service team since 2018. Outside of work I love fitness and boxing. I’ve always wanted to run a marathon as its been on the bucket list for a while, so when the opportunity arose, I knew I had to give it a try. With it being in April, it’s really given me something to focus on at the start of 2024".

How have you been preparing for the big day?

"I’m currently running 4 times a week following a marathon programme which lasts for 16 weeks. On my rest days from running, I’m usually at the gym boxing or doing strength work. The longest I’ve run is half a marathon, which was a few years ago now but I've done a few long runs in my programme including 10miles and 11 miles"

Why have you selected Mencap as your choosen charity?

"Right now, people with a learning disability face inequalities in every area of life with almost 1 in 3 young people with a learning disability spending less than 1 hour outside their home on a typical Saturday.

They face barriers finding a job, accessing activities in their local community and receiving good quality healthcare. Mencap tackle these issues head on by providing support in a way that meets individual needs and encourages greater independence. They give expert advice and information that empowers people and their families and campaign relentlessly for changes that brings greater equality for people with a learning disability.

Keeping in line with the Lloyd ethos of helping wherever we can, I felt it was important to raise awareness for such an important cause"

Everyone at here at Lloyd couldn’t be more proud of Ben and we can't wait to see how much he raises for this fantastic charity.
