Mark Evans celebrates an amazing 27 years at Lloyd Motor Group

From all of us here at Lloyd Motor Group, we would like to congratulate Mark Evans on an incredible 27 years of service. Mark began his career back in 1999 at what was then Derek Woodman, and he has been a valued member of the Lloyd team since we took over the dealership in 2006. 

Having seen so many changes throughout Lloyd Motor Group's journey, Mark shares what has kept him here for almost 3 decades, the customers who still ask for him by name, and the career highlight that took him all the way to Istanbul. He also tells us his favourite BMW of all time and what he'd say to those just starting out in the trade...

What's different about working here compared to other dealerships or garages you've heard about, or worked at in the industry?

"I think it’s the people. I’ve been here 27 years and there’s always been a good team around me. Things have obviously changed over the years, but the people and the relationships are what keep you here."
 

Who's had the biggest influence on your career here?

"Probably Callum (he didn't tell me to say that) although I’m not sure he’d want that on record! He’s definitely had the biggest influence on my career — mainly because he’s managed to get me two pay rises since he took over!"
 

Do you still see customers you served decades ago? What's that like?

"Yes, and that’s one of the best things about the job. You get to know customers over the years and it becomes more than just working on their cars. Simon is a great example — he’ll only let me work on his car, and he still comes into the workshop for a chat and to see how his M4 CS is doing."
 

What's a moment with a customer that's stuck with you over the years?

"Probably the customers who come back year after year and specifically ask for you to work on their cars. After 27 years, knowing that people still trust you with their pride and joy means a lot."
 

Is there a car model, or job that stands out as a career highlight?

"My favourite car has always been the E39 M5 Career-wise, going to Istanbul for the launch of the F80 M4 over 10 years ago was a real highlight. It was an amazing experience and something I’ll always remember."

What would you tell someone just starting out in this trade today?

"Learn as much as you can, listen to the people around you and take pride in what you do. Cars are always changing, so you never stop learning."
 

What does hitting 27 years here mean to you, personally?

"It’s a long time! I’ve seen a lot of changes, worked on some fantastic cars and met some great people. I’m proud to have spent 27 years doing something I’ve genuinely enjoyed."
 

What do you think the next chapter looks like, for you, or for Lloyd Motor Group?

Cars are changing faster than ever, especially with EVs and new technology, I sad that the new M models are including electrification, but that's just the purist in me. There’s always something new to learn. Hopefully I’ve still got a few more years left to enjoy it and pass some of what I’ve learned on to the next generation.
