Lloyd BMW Partner with 13 Valleys Ultra as Part of Recharge in Nature Project

Company News

Lloyd BMW are delighted to be partnering up with 13 Valleys Ultra, an epic ultra-marathon event taking place throughout the stunning landscape of the Lake District National Park.

From Friday 29 September to Sunday 1 October 2023, the event will link all thirteen valleys of the Lake District together for the first time.

The event offers three ultra distances - 60km, 100km and 180km - and a 20km trail distance, each promising spectacular trail and mountain running over the fells, round the magnificent lakes and waters, and through the Lake District’s unique valleys. All of the event distances finish in Keswick, with regular check points and feed stations along the route.

Lloyd Cockermouth BMW will be providing the 13 Valleys Ultra support team with electric vehicles for the event, including the BMW i4, BMW iX and BMW iX1. The team, who check after the welfare and safety of the runners, will be using these cars to help runners who have DNF to get back to a feed station, or to the finish at Keswick, where possible.

The flagship event, in partnership with the Lake District National Park, will create the foundations of a trail that can be used by visitors and residents year-round. To support these efforts 5% of each entry fee will be donated to the Lake District Foundation.

The 180km 13 Valleys distance will rank alongside some of the toughest tests of ultra running in the world, and is open to experienced ultra runners on a qualification basis only. The 180km loop includes 13 checkpoints, more than 7,000m elevation, and passes through all 13 valleys. The 110km 7 Valleys and 55km 5 Valleys routes both offer a taste of the big one and exciting, stand alone, ultra marathon challenges. The 20km 2 Valleys Trail allows trail runners, and those keen to explore the world of ultra running, the perfect introduction to the event.

Lloyd BMW’s support for the event comes at an opportune time and aligns perfectly with BMW UK’s prior announcement of their partnership with National Parks UK, called Recharge in Nature. Recharge in Nature aims to help make the UK’s 15 National Parks even more accessible for electric cars, and also supports projects across the Parks focused on nature restoration, biodiversity, sustainability and well-being.

The UK’s National Parks are visited over 100 million times each year and 90 per cent of these visits are made by car. Given the surging popularity of electric cars, pressure on the limited recharging networks in the National Parks is growing. BMW’s Recharge in Nature project is addressing this with the installation of Pod Point recharging posts at pivotal locations across the UK’s National Parks. Being the most visited of all of the National Parks, the Lake District is the first location for this, and installation of recharging stations is underway.

We’d like to wish all runners taking part this weekend the best of luck, and we hope you have a fantastic weekend taking in the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District.
