The Junior European Open, first staged in 1993 and now in its 32nd year, is widely considered as the toughest test in junior golf across Europe. The Champions Week Finals took place at Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort in Cadiz, with 3 rounds played at Club De Golf La Canada and 1 round played at San Roque New Course. The Open saw 160 competitors from across Europe aged up to the age of 18 competing.

Leo is one of the youngest competitors to have won in this competition, and this was his first season playing 18-Holes.

“Having purchased several vehicles from Lloyd and Alex Cronin at Lloyd BMW Cockermouth over the last few years, I am absolutely delighted and truly grateful for Lloyd BMW Cockermouth sponsoring Leo and his trip to Spain for The European Junior Open. It is a proud moment to see him standing on the tee with the BMW and Lloyd Cockermouth logo on his shirt and reflect on the journey to the event, and the support they have given us over the years in many ways. We look forward to our continuing relationship and promotion of the Lloyd BMW Cockermouth brand on Leo’s clothes and bag through the 2024 season and the up-coming World Championships in July”.

“The BMW brand’s connection with golf is prolific and it has been our pleasure to be able to help Leo with his own journey towards golfing greatness! Having had the opportunity to play with Leo at Aberdour Golf Club, Scotland a little while back it was easy to see the passion he has for the sport and what a fantastic golfer he is going to become. He’s had a great season this year, his achievements at The Junior European Open in Spain being the penultimate highlight but also winning the Junior Golf Scotland Players Championship in his category and qualifying for the 2024 World Championships in Lough Erne, Ireland as well is equally as fantastic. We’re all looking forward to supporting Leo going in to 2024”.
Alex Cronin, Business Development Manager at Lloyd Cockermouth

“Leo’s achievements at The Junior European Open are a testament to the work and dedication he shows for the sport of golf, and, to be able to not only compete but come away with an award is testament to that. Especially when it Is his first season playing a full 18-hole round. Kenny has been a fantastic customer to the business over the years and we’ve been kept up-to-date with Leo’s performances throughout, it’s been great to have the opportunity to support Leo going into this Open and look forward to seeing what he walks away with at the end of 2024”.
David Byrne, Head of Business at Lloyd Cockermouth

Leo has had a very successful 2023 season, seeing his handicap reduce from 33 to 16. He was also the Ryder Cup Winner at this year’s Junior Golf Scotland Tour, winning 1st place in the Player’s Championship, and was also the U11 winner of the Club Championship at his home club, Drumpellier Golf Club. Other achievements throughout the year have included playing his first Cross Country event at Lanarkshire Golf Assosiation, and competing in 4 events for the Stephen Gallacher Foundation, taking 1st place twice and 2nd place twice in the U12 category.

Leo is already looking ahead to the 2024 season, where he aims to reduce his handicap to single figures, maintain his presence in Drumpellier and The St Andrews Golf Club teams, make his debut for Lanarkshire Golf Association, and go back to Spain for a chance to improve his results on this year.

A huge congratulations on this fantastic achievement, Leo!
