What is the BMW i4 like to drive?

This week, our Aftersales Manager at Lloyd Cockermouth, Shane Fox has taken the new BMW i4 eDrive40 to the BMW Group Academy in Reading to get an idea of its real-world range, its efficiency and how quickly it recharges.


Ahead of the 316 miles journey he used the My BMW app for planning and routing the most efficient routes. You can use the My BMW app or BMW Maps in your vehicle's navigation system. You can add a filter to find charging points for alternating current (AC), direct current (DC), and high-power charging (HPC). The vehicle's navigation system will then display a suitable charging station. In the BMW i4, the charging-optimised route automatically adds charging stations to the route.


He started the journey with a full battery charge and had two coffee breaks as normal at the Service station on the Motorway where he used a public fast charger to top up the car for approximately 20 minutes. Rather than driving the vehicle to 0 range, he took advantage of his normal motorway stops to top up the electric charge.

The car was great to drive, really smooth and powerful. Even the sound was right. It gives you a relaxed driving sensation – gliding almost silently.
