Everyone meet Charlie Hardy, our fantastic Apprentice Technician at Lloyd BMW Cockermouth!

 
Since joining Lloyd, Charlie has established himself as a vital member of the BMW Cockermouth team. Assisting our manufacture trained technicians is vehicle repairs and learning the key skills and techniques essential to a career within the motor trade. Better yet, he has done all this whilst earning!
 
We caught up with Charlie to find out how he was finding his apprenticeship so far…
 

Tell us about yourself?

Hi my name is Charlie and I am currently an apprentice technician at Lloyd BMW Cockermouth. I've been in the motor trade for almost 5 years now and even though I have no real interest in cars, I absolutely love fixing things that are broken. I am passionate about sports, particularly boxing. I actually compete as an amateur in which Lloyd sponsor me.

Describe a typical day in your role

My typical working day consists of a variety of work from general servicing, electrical diagnosis to Engine swaps. I really enjoy that there is always such a diverse range of work as it helps to keep the day exciting.

What is it that attracted you to an apprenticeship with Lloyd?

The first thing that attracted me to start an apprenticeship with Lloyd BMW was the thought of working for a prestigious brand and I saw it as a job for life, even though I had to take a pay cut from the job I was doing at the time. I haven't looked back.
 

What advice would you give someone who looking for a career in the motor industry?

 My only advice for anyone wanting to join the motor industry is be diligent and open to extra-curricular revision. I've found its given me an edge over candidates when it comes to exams and in my day to day work. If you're willing to put the time in, it definitely pays off!

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.

Something about me that most don’t know is that I used to do ballet and tap dancing which I competed in for 8 years!
